Adromischus maculatus is a small, slow-growing succulent from South Africa that’s loved for its chunky, spotted leaves. It’s sometimes called the Calico Hearts succulent because the leaves often develop dark purple or maroon speckles.
Care:
- Light: Bright light to several hours of direct sun. More sun usually brings out stronger spotting and leaf color.
- Water: Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, especially in winter.
- Soil: Very fast-draining cactus/succulent mix with extra pumice or perlite.
- Humidity: Prefers dry air; avoid keeping the leaves wet.
- Temperature: Best above 50°F (10°C). Protect from frost.
- Growth: Usually stays under 6 inches tall, forming small clumps over time.
- Pet safety: It’s generally considered non-toxic, though it’s still best to keep pets from chewing on it.
