The Monkey Tail Cactus is a fascinating and unique trailing cactus, prized for its long, fuzzy stems resembling a monkey’s tail. Native to Bolivia, this cactus is perfect for hanging baskets or high shelves, where its soft, silvery spines and red blooms can be admired.
• Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sunlight. Gradually acclimate it to full sun to avoid scorching.
• Water: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, especially during winter when it goes dormant. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
• Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix. A pot with drainage holes is essential to prevent water retention.
• Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 65–85°F. Protect it from frost, as it cannot tolerate temperatures below 50°F.
• Humidity: Prefers low humidity and dry conditions, mimicking its natural desert environment.
• Pet Safety: Non-toxic to pets, but its spines may still pose a physical hazard if touched or chewed.
